An open top sports car that is reminiscent of a British roadster, with a highly impressive low weight of just 740kg. But when you first hear of the name Classic Type F you immediately think of those nonsensical English phrases that are found throughout Japan. You think of the signs that you see on the Autobacs steps, “Super Happy Life” where you have to squeeze as many cool sounding English words together to make a completely outrageous English phrase. But the Classic Type F is far from that. Its another herald back to the days of British motoring. Its a hail back to the days of small open top roadsters built for the British B-roads.
But its also more than that, with a superbly made bespoke double wishbone front and rear suspension chassis. Its also filled with some modern creature comforts, like seats and steering wheel (i lie there is not much comfort here). There is no air conditioning, no heated seats, no ABS or EBD. Instead you just get some leather and a well sorted agile weekend sports car. Its got the BP-ZE engine from an MX-5 and a 5 speed manual gearbox. Which puts out 95kW and about 150Nm of torque which isn’t awe-inspiring performance, but with a few months work you can get some forced induction going to make the car a little bit more lairy. Just imagine using this car for track work. Just imagine going past MX-5s in Wakefield in your Mitsuoka.
But it also comes in 3 choices of colours; Red, green (some variation of british racing green) and silver. Which is a seriously overwhelming choice of colours, that even Imelda Marcos would have trouble in choosing
So to sum up… small lightweight roadster, guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
